THE CELDAS100TM DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM


DATA ACQUISITION

The CELDAS100TM Data Acquisition System is a RS-485 Ethernet-based system operating under QNX, with virtually unlimited expansion capabilities.

Software configurable for a great range of data acquisition and control applications, the CELDAS100TM offers real time monitoring and control along with post-processing of historic data for statistical analysis.

The CELDAS100TM (see diagram) is the result of several years of investment in Research & Development by CEL. It has been developed by CEL experts in close cooperation with users to meet all needs for present and future generation applications.

Integrated Environment
Due to the CELDAS100TM real-time operating system, users can guarantee scan times for data acquisition as well as reaction times for critical events. Moreover, since data acquisition and control functions can be integrated in the QNX environment, the need for stand-alone subsystems components such as PLC's and Process Controllers is practically eliminated.

Speed
The CELDAS100TM sub-divides I/O into critical and less-critical parameters, optimizing signal processing in order to eliminate time overhead inherent to systems depending solely on multiplexed or serial data transmission. For critical test parameters such as speed, vibration and torque, data acquisition rates of up to 100,000 samples/second can be achieved.

 

SIGNAL CONDITIONING

CEL's custom signal conditioning further ensures data reliability. CEL has designed products for application at its front end such as anti-aliasing filtering, and interfaces allowing compatibility with a wide range of engine transducers such as LVDT, RVDT, magnetic pulse pick-ups, potentiometers and strain gauges.

Signal Conditioning Unit -- CEL-SCU
The CEL-SCU is a self contained unit designed for high speed signal conditioning and acquisition.

 The chassis can accept up to 8 X 4 channel AC/DC signal conditioners, 8 X 2 channel frequency signal conditioners or 8 X 2 channel RVDT/LVDT signal conditioners. A multi-layer backplane routes all 32 channels of acquisition to the analog to digital converter extender. There are 3 different extender boards that are supplied with the CEL-SCU to provide communication access to all 32 channels: a power extender, a bus extender and an A/D extender.

A channel of acquisition consists of a pre-conditioner and a conditioner. The card cage contains eight slots to accommodate eight signal conditioners and eight pre-conditioners. All transducer signals or signals to be measured enter the pre-conditioner boards. Set-up and configuration of the bus is accomplished via an LPT port.
